The topic of sustainability is increasingly becoming the focus of economic activity, as companies are facing completely new challenges in view of the sustainability goals adopted by the global community. The EU is taking these goals into account with the Green Deal, and the capital goods industry and mechanical engineering can and must make a significant contribution to achieving these goals with their products.

General information about the Sustainable Technology* degree program

The career-integrated Master’s degree program in Sustainable Technology provides students with the skills to evaluate technical products and capital goods as well as the production systems based on them in terms of their energy and resource efficiency and to develop them in such a way that their ecological footprint is significantly reduced over the entire product life cycle. Ideally, they should even be completely climate-neutral. The extraction, storage and use of renewable forms of energy, the optimization of energy and resource use, their recycling and circular economy as well as the holistic evaluation of products are key aspects of this.

We firmly believe that a profound understanding of future-oriented sustainable technologies is essential to prepare you for your everyday working life. But we also know that this can only be the first step: Knowledge must always be followed by transfer.

SMT’s Project Competence Study Program® therefore not only prepares you to deal confidently with technical challenges, but also to work in management positions – to develop your own strategies for sustainability in the company and to use digital technologies as a catalyst for new processes, products and projects.

To enable you to meet this challenge with confidence, the Master’s in Sustainable Technology combines theory, practice and individual support in three basic modules to create your personal skills profile:

The Master’s in Sustainable Technology is a career-integrated degree program. This means that it is only possible to study in conjunction with working in a company. Our Professional Education Program is therefore just right for students who already have both feet on the career ladder and would like to develop their professional skills with the Master’s degree without interrupting their career path. If, on the other hand, you are still at the beginning of your career, our fellowship model will give you a quick and effective jump-start: through our partner, the SCMT, you can join well-known companies parallel to your studies and gain professional experience there as a fully-fledged project employee. Project

In the Master’s in Sustainable Technology, you will learn what constitutes contemporary, innovative application of digital technologies in a company. You will take on responsibility as part of your study project and, thanks to the work-integrated degree program, 85% of your time will be spent in the company. This allows you to put what you have learned into practice and gain experience in the analysis, development and optimization of authentic IT structures.

This degree program provides students with the fundamental scientific, technological and political know-how to tackle today’s sustainability challenges, combined with a good command of management and strategy insights and tools.

The Master’s degree program in Sustainable Technology trains the managers of tomorrow’s sustainable economy. It combines outstanding management training with in-depth knowledge of biotechnology, sustainability and the circular economy. Companies are realizing that they don’t have to sacrifice their bottom line to become a sustainable business and reduce their environmental impact. In fact, some companies are achieving higher margins through the development and use of sustainable technologies.

The Master Sustainable Technology supports you in achieving your goals in the field of sustainable technologies, which basically pursues two goals: the production of new technologies using sustainable processes and materials and the use of technologies to address environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Sustainable technologies can range from physical technologies such as solar panels to ESG reporting and ESG performance management software.

When developing technologies sustainably, companies can consider factors such as the resources used to develop the technology, the supplier of these materials and potential negative outcomes throughout the technology’s lifecycle, such as emissions or e-waste.

You will manage and process projects and measures in line with the corporate sustainability strategy in collaboration with the specialist departments.
