In our FAQ, we have put together the most important information about the integrated degree program at SMT in a nutshell. The standard period of study is three years for a Bachelor’s degree and two years for a Master’s degree.
Your seminars will usually take place at one of the SMT locations in Berlin or Stuttgart. Depending on which integrated degree program you have chosen, there may also be seminars where you can choose where you would like to attend them. You can also attend some courses completely remotely.
SMT has partner universities abroad. Seminar stays in Europe, Asia or the USA are therefore not only possible in our integrated degree programs, but in some cases also firmly planned.
Roughly summarized: You don’t just work in a company in phases, but develop a practical project throughout your studies. On the one hand, this project is your final thesis and on the other, it creates real added value – and after graduation, you can also use it as a reference.
You can find more information about the Project Competence Study Program® here.
To ensure that you can concentrate on your practical project just as well as on your seminars, SMT uses block seminars. This means that the seminars usually take place in blocks (+/- 2 weeks). The specific seminar times are based on the current study examination regulations (SPO) for your integrated degree program.
Over the course of your integrated degree program at SMT, you will take exams in the form of written exams, transfer work and case studies. In addition, you will work on your final thesis with your practical project during your studies. The examinations usually take place at the end or after the corresponding seminar block.
Mentors from the university will support you both in preparing for exams and in preparing your written coursework. You can also draw on the expertise of mentors from your project company.

The career-integrated degree program at SMT is not based on summer and winter semesters: you can start your practical project first, regardless of when the seminar starts, so you can start at any time. We therefore accept applications all year round. However, we recommend that you submit your application approx. three to six months before your desired start date. The earlier you apply, the more time you have to find a suitable project company if you still need an employer for your practical project.
Once you have successfully completed the application process at SCMT, you will automatically be added to the SCMT talent pool. The SCMT project consultants will then start looking for a suitable company for your practical project.
You can only enrol at Steinbeis University once your application to SMT has been successful and you have been accepted by your project company.

The fellowship model allows you to start your career alongside your studies. It is also suitable for all students who already have professional experience but would like to start a new chapter in their career with the integrated degree program at SMT.

The actual working hours depend on the requirements of the department of your project company, which is on average 35 – 40 hours/week. Absences due to seminars are included in the calculation. SMT’s Professional Education Program is aimed at professionals who would like to study but do not want to put their career on hold. This form of work-integrated study therefore enables you to carry out your practical project at your current employer – for further education with real impact exactly where you need it in your day-to-day work.
As a student on the Professional Education Program, you are employed directly by the company for which you are developing your practical project. If your employer agrees, you can therefore combine your work-study program with your current job. And if you are looking for a career change anyway, our practice partner SCMT can place you as a junior consultant at one of our project companies.
In the Professional Education Program, you conclude the employment contract directly with the company where you work. However, you will also conclude a supplementary study contract with SMT.

As you are employed directly by your project company, the amount of your salary naturally depends on what this company offers you. However, we will support you in the negotiations: A minimum salary of 1750 euros gross per month is required for you to participate in the Professional Education Program.
