Regardless of whether you are at the beginning of your career path or in the middle of your professional life: your application to SMT marks the start of a new chapter. Our talent management team will help you create the right conditions for your studies during the application process so that your entry into the Project Competence Study Program® is a real kick-start.
From the online application to your enrolment at SMT, there are five or six steps – depending on whether you start with our fellowship model or tackle your professional development via the Professional Education Program . To help you keep track, we have broken down the application process for you below.
- Step 1 – Application
Apply online – simple, straightforward & fast
Send in your application by post and then wait forever for a reply? Not with us. You can apply for your integrated degree program online. Register as an applicant at SMT and get started: upload your application documents, fill out your profile – and if you are still waiting for a certificate or are missing a scan, that’s no problem. You can save your interim status in our application portal and complete your application later.
As soon as we have received your documents, we will send you a confirmation of receipt. You can then see how your application is progressing at any time in your personal applicant account.
- Step 2 – Telephone interview

Your online application has convinced us – now we want to get to know you better. In order to offer you maximum flexibility during the application process, we always conduct interviews with prospective students by telephone. We are primarily interested in finding out a little more about you, your career path to date and your goals: Do you already have an idea for your study project? Would you like to join us via our fellowship model or does your employer support you with your academic qualification as part of the Professional Education Program? The telephone interview also gives you the opportunity to ask our talent management team your questions about the application process and your career-integrated studies at SMT.
- Step 3 – Talent selection
Our innovative Fellowship model paves the way for you
This application step is only available for prospective students who are still looking for the right employer for their Project Competence Study Program®. If you already have both feet on the career ladder and your employer will support you in your studies as part of the Professional Education Program, you can skip straight to step 4: To finding the right topic for your study project.
For students who are still at the beginning of their career path, the talent selection process for SMT’s exclusive fellowship model is underway. As a Fellow, you will be employed by SCMT GmbH during your career-integrated studies. This allows you to work as a project employee at one of our project companies, remain financially independent and have the choice between numerous well-known employers who are looking forward to you and your study project.
- Step 4 – Project identification
Your Project Competence Study Program® is taking shape
Our project advisory service will help you to strategically plan your practical project in the company. The Project Competence Study Program® at SMT not only offers you an academic degree, but also provides you with a valuable reference: with your study project, you contribute to the further development of a company – and the results speak for you both in salary negotiations and in future application processes.
For this reason, it is important that your study project matches your interests and strengths, but also gives you the opportunity to put your expertise to the test and shape your individual profile as a specialist. And as soon as you have an idea of the direction you want to take with your project as a fellow, you can start looking for a suitable position at one of our project companies!
- Step 5 – Interview at the company
Our experts will accompany you on your way to a careerentry
The written part of your application went well, but the thought of the interview makes you nervous? As soon as you have been accepted as a Fellow, you have the Steinbeis network at your side: the SMT talent management team will prepare you for the personal interview with the HR experts from our project companies with individual application coaching.
Of course, this step is also exclusively intended for applicants who are starting their career-integrated studies at SMT with the fellowship model. If you already have your employment contract in your pocket and have already discussed the Professional Education Program with your employer, we will use this time instead to clarify the final details of your study project.
- Step 6 – Enrollment
Welcome to your careerintegrated degree program at SMT!
Once you have your project confirmation and your employment contract in your pocket, there is just one last step left: your enrollment at SMT. And then it’s official: you’re part of the Steinbeis network – and that won’t just help you with your studies.
As a student at our university, you can get in touch with your personal contact in our team at any time with questions and problems. In addition to the courses included in your curriculum, you will also have access to exclusive further education opportunities and networking events.
